ROME, N.Y. — On Wednesday, April 23, at 12:02 p.m,. the Rome Police Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of E. Bloomfield St., for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Police identified the driver as Dakota C. Smith, 32,of Rome. An initial investigation into the traffic stop revealed Smith’s NYS driving privileges were suspended. Further investigation found that Smith was also in possession of 265.3 grams of methamphetamine and an electronic stun gun.
Police took Smith into custody and transported her to Rome Police Headquarters, where she was processed and subsequently transported to the Oneida County Jail for the centralized arraignment process.
Officers charged Smith with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The Street Crimes Unit was assisted by the Patrol Division and the Special Investigations Division.
