According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a City of Rome man has been arrested following a menacing in progress complaint.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6:45 p.m., road patrol deputies were dispatched by the Oneida County Emergency Services 911 Center to The Dollar General, 8220 Turin Road, Rome, for a menacing in progress 911 call.
The complainant reported that there was a male suspect on scene who was in the store acting erratically and making store employees uncomfortable. The male suspect then exited the store and confronted another male party, who was not an employee of the store. The male suspect then brandished a large knife and made threats towards the other male party. After a brief verbal confrontation, the male suspect then left the area.
At 8:56 p.m., road patrol deputies located the male suspect, and they took the suspect into custody without incident. The male suspect was then identified as Arthur John, 38, of Rome. Deputies transported John to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement building where he was booked and processed.
Road patrol deputies charged John with one count of second-degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor. A member of the criminal investigation unit also charged John with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony. Authorities lodged John and held him at the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await the CAP Court on December 4.
Deputies also found John was wanted on three separate Warrants, one out of the New York State Police in Oneida for petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor, and two out of the city of Watertown Police for a charge of resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor and illegal dumping, a violation.
After the arraignment in CAP Court, authorities held John at the Oneida County Correctional Facility without bail pending further court proceedings.
