MARCY, N.Y. – The New York State Police are investigating an apparent suicide that occurred this morning inside an administrative building at the Marcy Correctional Facility in the town of Marcy, Oneida County.
At 8:05 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7 authorities found a Department of Corrections and Community Supervision employee deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Abdalla Hadian, 55, was employed by DOCCS as a civilian Imam and had recently returned to work following a medical leave.
Imam is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, imam is most commonly used as the title of a prayer leader of a mosque. For Shiite Muslims, an imam is a recognized authority on Islamic theology and law and a spiritual guide
No foul play is suspected at this time. Authorities recovered a handwritten note at the scene and it is being translated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities also transported the body to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. Next of kin have been notified.
