On Sunday, Oct. 19 at 4:54 p.m. Madison County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the area of State Route 12 and Tackabury Road regarding a motor vehicle collision with unknown injuries.
Upon arriving on scene, deputies learned that a 2018 Nissan Rogue operated by Austin Thurlow, 18, Cheektowaga was travelling eastbound on Tackabury Road when it attempted to turn northbound onto state Route 12.
Thurlow pulled into the path of a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 towing a horse trailer, operated by Julia Dillon, 34, Hamilton which had been travelling southbound on Route 12.
Dillon’s Silverado struck Thurlow’s vehicle was subsequently struck by Dillon’s vehicle. A passenger in Thurlow’s vehicle, Laurie Jones 70, East Amherst suffered severe injuries as a result of the collision. Rescue personnel transported Jones to Hamilton Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities shut down state Route 12 between Excell Road and Tackabury Road for several hours while investigators reconstructed the collision. Causal factors of the collision are still under investigation.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received assistance on-scene by the New York State Police, the Hamilton Police Department, the New York State DOT, Madison County EMS and the Hubbardsville Fire Department.
