WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists that Monday, Aug. 4, is the start of “Speed Awareness Week.”
“Each year, hundreds of motorists in New York State lose their lives or suffer serious injuries from speed related crashes,” Lt. Jon Morticelli of the Madison County Sheriff’s department said. “Excessive speed is the main contributing factor for fatal motor vehicle crashes. Speeding endangers not only the life of the speeder, but other people on the roadway.”
The intent of “Speed Awareness Week” is to reduce the number of speed related crashes, which will result in fewer crash related deaths and injuries.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the “Speed Awareness Week” initiative which takes place from August 4–10.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will be deploying dedicated traffic enforcement patrols that will target speeding motorists.
“The Madison County Sheriff’s Office would like to encourage all motorists to obey the speed limit and arrive alive at your destination,” Morticelli said.
